According to recent information on him his grandfather was German. A large percentage of the United States ancestors were Northern European from 1620 to recent time. His actual ethnicity could be said to be American like so many others. I am not defending him but pointing out a fact that a large percentage of people today are simply American and do not identify themselves as any particular ethnic background because their ancestors came to the United States at some point.
