The English common name for Terminalia cambodiana is Cambodian almond. Although it is called almond, it is completely different species from almond in temperate and cold countries. The French common name for Terminalia cambodianais Amandier du Cambodge. And the Russian common name for Terminalia cambodiana is Terminalya kambodzhiskaya (Терминалия камбоджийская). The Khmer name (official language of Cambodia) for this kind of tree is Ta-uor (ត្អួរ). In Thailand it is called ขล้อเงาะ.

The Cambodian almond occurs in the low-lying areas of countries in Southeast Asia. In Cambodia the Cambodian almond occurs primarily in the floodplain around Tonle Sap Lake. This kind of tree also occurs in southern part of Vietnam, especially in Mekong Delta areas. I have not known yet the Vietnamese name for Terminalia cambodiana, and as well the Chinese name.

The Cambodian almond can reach the height of 7 m. and can grow well in the water, even it is submerged. The plant usually grows along with other species of tree and shrub. The plant is very important for wildlife habitat, especially for Freshwater Fish and water birds. There is no information on the use of Cambodian almond, except the use as firewood by the locals.
