Between the 1760s & the 1770s a guy from Spain came to America hoping to search for the "legendary fountain of youth." His name was Juan Ponce de Leon. He discovered a tropical peninsula located in North America. It was so sunny there that he gave Florida the nickname "The Sunshine State" because he thought that the sunlight there was extremely powerful compared to the strength of sunshine in Spain.

Off subject:

Juan Ponce de Leon also walked around numerous areas of the tropical peninsula and saw millions of flowers, daises, palm trees, tropical plants, etc. and decided to name the tropical peninsula "Florida" which in Spanish combined together equals "Land of the Flowers."

*So, know you know a little bit of history based on how Florida received it's nickname and why it's called Florida. Hope I helped you out. Have a great day, and as they say in Puerto Rico, "Adios amigos
