IEEE Computer Society (sometimes abbreviated Computer Society or CS) is a professional association, chartered in 1971 "to advance the theory, practice, and application of computer and information science and technology The IEEE Computer Society traces its origins to the Subcommittee on Large-Scale Computing, established in 1946 by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE), and to the Technical Committee on Electronic Computers, established in 1948) by the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE). When the AIEE merged with the IRE in 1963 to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), these two committees became the IEEE Computer Group. The group established its own constitution and bylaws in 1971 to become the IEEE Computer Society. Today the CS is the largest of 38 technical societies organized under the IEEE Technical Activities Board.

IEEE 802.11 is a set of standards carrying out wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz frequency bands. They are created and Maintained by the IEEE LAN/MAN standards committee (IEEE 802).
The IEEE 1394 is similar to a USB device, it can be plugged into the port on the computer or device, mostly to import audio or video files. The IEEE 1394 port is called a firewire. An external scanner or disk drive may also have a firewire port.

IEEE stands for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. It is an organization of scientist, engineers and students that was founded in 1884 as AICC and then renamed to IEEE in 1963 after it merged with IRE. It is famously known for developing standards to be used in electronic and computer industries.
Apple's FireWire (IEEE 1394 interface) was first introduced in 1995.
