You would be saying you want records that have values not in this list which you specify. IN works like OR. Say you have a list of people are their marital status was a field. Say the values in the field could be Single, Married, Widowed, Divorced, Separated or Unknown. If you wanted to show all of the people that were not Divorced or Separated, you could use the Not In to do it. In the criteria line under marital status you could have:
