It is most commonly translated as "Submission to Allah" and "Peace"
Islam means the complete submission to Allah (God) & the absolute subordination to his commands in everything. It is translated to the same word in Arabic & written as "الاسلام "
The Arab Scholar Ibn Sina (also known as Avicenna in Europe) was known as the Galen of Islam as many of his texts were translated into English and used for the medical training of physicians.
During the golden period of Islam, the works of Arts and Sciences of the world were translated into Arabic. Schools and colleges were established. Educational Institutions flourished. It was an age of tolerance.

It comes from the word salam, which means peace. The word Islam means submission. It comes from the story of Abraham, who submitted himself to God. Hence, Islam is about submitting oneself to God. Likewise, Muslim means anyone who submits. This is why Muslims believe Adam to be the first Muslim.
The original text of the Qur'an is in Arabic. It is translated into many languages, although all of the levels of meaning can only be accessed in the original Arabic.

Roughly... Muslims transferred the Roman text from the fragile paypus onto paper. During this transfer it was translated into Arabic language. The text was altered somewhat to fit the Muslim religion and life styles. Years later the Muslims once again translated the text but this time into the languages spoken by the Anglo Saxon Europeans whom have spread the knowledge to its current position in today's society.
Both nations are dominated by Sunni Muslims. Sunni Islam, roughly translated as "orthodox Islam" is the original and most popular form of Islam. About 90% of all Muslims are Sunnis as well as the near whole of converts into Islam. Shi'ite Muslims are usually found in central Iran, Iraq and parts of Lebanon. In Pakistan and Afghanistan, Shi'ites do exist, but they are an extreme minority, and often do not pertain to the major branch of Shi'ite Islam, the "Ith'na Asriah" or The Twelvers. Many practice Islam in ways influenced by hindi-pagan tradition.
The dybbuk (דיבוק) is exclusively a Jewish concept and does not exist in any form in Islam. The Jewish dybbuk is the possession of a living person (usually but not exclusively female) by someone recently deceased (usually but not exclusively male) that had a strong emotional connection with that person (usually star-crossed lovers). None of the "usually-s" have to be the case; it is just more common that they are. Islam does have concepts of spiritual and demonic possession, whence comes the term "mejanin" (مجانين). Mejanin is usually translated as "crazy people", but is more accurately translated as "people affected by the jinns". (Jinns are the most common form of demon in Islam.) Jinns, however, are living beings of a unique physical make-up, not dead former humans. In Islam, it is impossible for a dead spirit to inhabit the body of a living person.
