John Graunt is known as the father of demography for his work in applying statistical methods to study population data. His book "Natural and Political Observations Made upon the Bills of Mortality" published in 1662 is considered a seminal work in the field of demography. Graunt's analysis of population data laid the foundation for the field of modern demography by introducing the use of numerical data and statistical methods to study patterns and trends in populations.
The demography (statistical data) shows that the birth rate is much higher than the death rate. The Demographic survey shows that female birth rate in advanced countries is higher than in the backward countries.
Demography is important to national development as it provides crucial data on population size, distribution, and composition. This information helps governments plan for infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social services. Understanding demographic trends also supports economic planning, resource allocation, and policy-making to ensure sustainable development.
Studying demography helps to understand trends and patterns in population dynamics, such as migration, aging, and fertility rates. This information is crucial for making informed decisions in areas like public policy, urban planning, healthcare, and education. Demographic data also plays a key role in predicting future social and economic changes.
The Latin word 'emeritus' is given to some professors (and in other circles) as a mark of respect for their years of contribution.... so that Dr John Brown, Professor of XYZ at the ABC University would become Dr John Brown, Emeritus Professor of XYZ.
For individuals aged 50 and over, the maximum 403(b) contribution limit for 2011 is $22,500.

I believe that there are no known images of John Graunt. He probably had a portrait painted some time before the 1666 Fire of London, but this would have been lost when his own house burned. After the fire, he lost his employment. He was a (converted) Catholic and there was a lot of suspicion and prejudice against them at this time in England, particularly after the fire. Subsisting on his reduced means, he likely would not have had an opportunity to commission a new portrait.
why do we need demography?
