Dan Brown's 2003 book The Da Vinci Code created a whole new wave of interest in Leonardo da Vinci and the possibility of his artworks containing codes and messages. Da Vinci is probably famous to more people in our day and age than he was during his, but he was definitely famous in his own right during his lifetime as well.
