To improve the above answer, I should say:

Libya does not eat, let alone did. Countries do not eat.

The way I understand language prompts me to say that Only the people and the animals that live in the country actually eat.

If the person (or the robot) who asked the above question meant to say: what do Libyans eat?

Then, as a Libyan, I can answer:

palm dates: eaten as is, with bsisa, or with a glass of fresh milk: truly prehistoric dish.
soup
(shourbah),
zemmitha (flour dough mixed with water and oil): prehistoric dish.
bazin (boild dough eaten with vegetable or meat tomato sauce: prehistoric dish.
couscous (fine grains of wheat or barley steamed and eaten with sauce),
tajeen (oven cooked dish topped with eggs),
reshdah (finely chopped fresh pasta),
mbekbkah (macaroni or spaghetti cooked in tomato sauce with meat and check peas), kufta (fresh herbs and mince burgers),
boureek (egg fried inside a sheet of thin dough: yummy and crispy),
mbetten (potatoe slices stuffed with mince and fresh herbs, fried in olive oil), ma'danous (intestines stuffed with mixed meat and herbs.
sfenj (dough fried in olive oil),
ghraybah (short bread),
ka'ak (sweet made of baked dough in the shape of rings - just like short bread),
as well as all the international dishes available in most restaurants.
