The Blessed Virgin Mary did not Ascend into Heaven as Our Lord did, but she was Assumed by the will of Christ. This happened because The Blessed Virgin Mary was the Mother of God, and as such, was given the honor of being the prime mortal example for all of humanity as she was born without sin (called the Immaculate Conception) and was Assumed into Heaven body and soul as we all will be at the second coming of Christ.

As the Scriptures themselves tell us, not everything is written down, and the New Testament was not written until many years after Our Blessed Lord's Ascension into heaven, nor formed, as we have it today, until centuries later. The Bible, specifically the New Testament, was written as a preaching tool, NOT as a compendium of Christian doctrine. No dogma may contradict Scripture, but it is not all contained in Scripture, that is a protestant heresy.

When Mary's time on earth came to an end, Mary was taken directly into heaven, body and soul, by God. Her body was not subjected to corruption. The Church doctrine of the Assumption of Mary leaves open the question whether Mary was assumed without undergoing death or did she die a natural death and then her body was assumed a short time afterwards and reunited with her body in heaven.

Nowhere does the Bible support the suggestion that Mary was assumed into heaven. However, the early Church, especially in the west, developed 'Mariology' traditions, including the belief that Mary was assumed up into heaven.

When did Saint Mary the Virgin live?

We do not know when Mary died or if she died. Some believe that when her days on Earth were over, she was assumed - body and soul - into Heaven. Others believe that she did die and then, 3 days later, her body was taken into Heaven. Roman Catholic teachings leave open either possibility. We do know that she was not subjected to corruption and that her body did not have to wait for the end of time to be reunited with her soul as do the other saints.

Does Mary mother of Jesus die?

Mary was taken body and soul into heaven. That is what is celebrated on the Feast of the Annunciation. The doctrine leaves it open as to whether Mary was taken to heaven before death or shortly thereafter. Most theologians believe that she died a natural death and was then assumed into heaven.
