As a shield volcano, Mauna Kea erupts mafic lava.
I have boner
The Hawaiian Islands were formed by coalesing shield volcanoes. These volcanoes are exclusively composed of Basalt lava. The lava does not readily trap gas and flows very easily giving Mauna Loa, and Kiluaea there pronounced rounded shapes we see today.
The active volcanoe's name is Kilauea. It has been actively spewing lava since 1983.
No. Hilo is on the slopes of the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea portions of the island.
mauna kea was formed when the plates of the earth pushed against each other and a mountain was formed. but lava/magma kept on flowing upwards and made the volcano erupt. right know mauna kea could be growing higher and higher.
a shield volcano
Mauna Kea is a convergent boundary. You're welcome. ;)
