Mayan jewelry can be made out of many different types of materials, just as any other jewelry. Some examples are gold, platinum, titanium, ivory, clay, wood, beads, silver etc.
My favorite material for Mayan Jewelry is sterling silver, which is 92.5 percent fine silver. The reason designers use sterling silver is because pure silver is too soft a metal, and wouldn't last any extended period of time, whereas sterling silver adds in other high quality metals to increase its strength and other things like reduce tarnishing.
Mayan civilizations used gold in jewelry. Romans and Greeks also used gold jewelry as a source of value.
They used teeth for jewelry and bones for earings, but to have the jewelry made they must sacrifice the person to recieve the teeth bones and other things such as the boobs of a women as a replacment for yak fibers
