Mexico is a rich, multicultural country that cannot be defined as a whole. Each region and city has its own distinctive traditions and economic advancement which result in different lifestyles.

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a ranking created by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to measure countries or regions according to three basic population parameters: health, education and income. In Mexico, several cities and regions have a quality of life equivalent to that of their American or Western European counterparts, while others have the same health, education and income of undeveloped countries like Haiti or Madagascar.
