the Sunni and Shiite are two main sects in Islam religion first as majority and latter as minority.
Islam means the same to all Muslims no matter what sect they are : "Submission to God" and also "Peace"

sunni Islam isn't a very accurate description of the matter. as Islam spread there were several parties that started to appear. basically sunnis where the ones that remained loyal to the Muslim nation and didn't change the teachings of the earlier scholars. as there were many parties, these people needed a name so they were called "ahel al sunnah wal jama'a" or what is refered to as "sunni".

Iranian nation before approximately 600 years were Sunni, but the governor (Ismā'il Abu'l-Mozaffar)converts the majority by force and by killing to shi'a. Now Sunni are the minority in Iran. Shi'a in brief they are not Muslims, they have their own Religion. It is totally out of the correct Islam.
