Do You mean the Crusades? Well The Salem witch Trials were mostly for liberal woman while the crusades target was anyone who didnt accept catolisism, mostly the Muslims.
EDIT:
They meant the play written about the Salem Witch Trials. I have to tell you that most of what is in the Crucible is a fabrication for the purpose of Miller's allegory. Most of it differs greatly from the actual events. The Crucible changed ages and combined characters into a single one.
I don't know, I need to know too. the Internet sucks and there isn't anything good about the topic....

Salem Village was divided along religio-political lines as well as economic lines. Samuel Parris was a former merchant was the head of a church that separated from the main Salem church. It included only one major group led by the Putnam family. The main church included prosperous merchants and most of the village. Most of the accused witches were members of the main church as well as were from the upper merchant class.
Yes, Peter Salem was a former slave. He fought as a soldier during the American Revolutionary War and is best known for his participation in the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775. After the war, Salem was granted his freedom and lived as a free man until his death in 1816.
It was rather a ironic and symbolic place to hold the trials. From 1927-1938, the Nazis held major rallies there. It was there where the Nazis passed the Nuremberg Laws, outlawing the Jews doing really anything.
The major issue in 1692 was the Salem Witch Trials.
Playwright Arthur Miller initially studied journalism at the University of Michigan. He switched his major to English and graduated with a BA in English in 1938.

As Cold War paranoia pervaded the country, Miller penned his third major play, The Crucible (1953), as a response to 1950s McCarthyism. :)
