Photoshop is primarily used for editing pictures. I am a photographer, and without photo shop I would be No where! But it is also helpful if you are designing a creative page or album. The files created in Adobe Photoshop have a .psdextension. This extension primarily works only in photoshop, although other graphic viewing and editing softwares may offer reading compatibility for this format.
InDesign is used mostly for printing & publishing. It primarily a layout and typesetting program that is used in conjunction with the Adobe Suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator. Photoshop is good for photo editing and building intricate works of art from the ground up, Illustrator is used for making vector-based illustrations or logos, and InDesign is used for layout to piece everything together.
To edit and manipulate pictures, it has most of Photoshop features.
You can save Lab images in PSD, PSB, Photoshop EPS, Photoshop PDF, Photoshop Raw, TIFF, Photoshop DCS 1.0, and Photoshop DCS 2.0 formats.
Photoshop can be used to create animated GIF pictures from a sequence of images, however, cannot be used to create 3D animations or animated videos, Photoshop is only for image editing.
The most commonly used features in adobe photoshop is the editing tools for pictures.

Photoshop is a commonly used professional image editing software. I would recommend this.
There is no such option in Photoshop. If you mean Vector Photoshop shapes then the shapes can be used for infinite things in Photoshop such as layers, masks, as frames, as a source for selections, as a source for actual brushes, for patterns, for exporting to other applications, used in shape blurs, used as cookie cutters in Photoshop elements. Illustrator vector brushes exist as do expression and Xara vector brushes and many others but sadly, as yet, Photoshop has no vector format brushes.
