Punarjanma (reincarnation) is a world of Hindi language. According to the Hindu's mythology, soul (atman) is immortal while the body is mortal and subject to birth and death again and again on this earth, though sufficient evidence of the concept is not yet available. Hindus believe that every soul is reincarnated many times here on earth. When one body dies, the soul goes into a newly born body. How a person is reincarnated depends on his/her karma - the balance of good and bad actions accumulated through life. The Caste System provided a structure for such reincarnations. Traditionally Hindu society is divided into four rigid classes or castes. These are the four Varnas (Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras) :

Acceding to Gita (2.22) "Just as a man discards worn out cloths and puts on new cloths, the sole discards worn o bodies and wears new ones."

Reincarnation according to Buddhism:

Rebirth is an important belief in Buddhism and they relate it with "Karma" and a person can take birth again and again in different times and different situations, possibly for many thousand times. Rebirth has always been; and it is often referred to as walking the wheel of life (samsara/ Kaal Chakra) and this process continues until Nirvana is reached, which signifies the cessation of rebirth and, hence, the end of suffering.

Islamic views on rebirth.

The Islamic views are different from Hinduism and Buddhism. I will try to discuss this issue in the light of Quraanic verses.

Sura Al Anaam 6: Aayaat 27 says: "If thou couldst but see when they are confronted with the fire (Hell), they will say "Would that we were but sent back. Then would we not reject the sign of our Lord, but would be amongst those who believe.

Sura Al Anaam 6: Aayaat 28 says: Yea, in their own (eyes) will become manifest what before they concealed. But if they were returned, they would certainly relapse to the things they were forbidden, for they are indeed liars.

Sura 56 Waqeyah: Aayaat 62 says "and indeed, you have already known the first form of creation, why then do you not remember or heed

Sura

What I understand from the Quraanic verses that after death the sole remains at an assigned location (In Arabic called Barzak means barrier) between this life and the Day of Judgment (In Arabic it is called "Yaum Al Qayama" and in Hindi it is called "Pralay") The souls would be allowed to re-enter to their respective bodies and individuals would be accounted for. Thereafter a new life for ever to a new place (Hell or Haven) would be granted to all, by the Almighty, according to their performance on this earth but certainly there is no evidence that one would be given life on this earth.

Scientific views of reincarnation:

Dr. Ian Stevenson collected scientific data that appears to provide scientific proof that reincarnation is real, is the life's work of Dr. Ian Stevenson. Instead of relying on hypnosis to verify that an individual has had a previous life, he instead chose to collect thousands of cases of children who spontaneously (without hypnosis) remember a past life. Dr. Stevenson methodically documents the child's statements of a previous life. Then he identifies the deceased person the child remembers being, and verifies the facts of the deceased person's life that match the child's memory. He even matches birthmarks and birth defects to wounds and scars on the deceased, verified by medical records. His strict methods systematically rule out all possible "normal" explanations for the child's memories.

Dr. Stevenson has devoted the last forty years to the scientific documentation of past life memories of children from all over the world. He has over 3000 cases in his files. Many people, including skeptics and scholars, agree that these cases offer the best evidence yet for reincarnation.
