Qumran (قمران) is a location in the West Bank along the Dead Sea, where some of the oldest copies of the Old Testament and related Essene Religious documents were recovered around 1947. The area is currently part of Area C in the West Bank and managed by Israeli authorities who continue to permit excavations in the area. No major Palestinian population lives near Qumran.
