Rama is the name of the greatest Vedic ruler of ancient India. It is said about Rama, "In the reign of Rama, suffering belonged to no one." The entire history of the reign of Rama is recorded in the Vedic literature, in the branch called Itihasa (i.e. History) in a seven volume account entitled the "Ramayana." The original Ramayana is attributed to the great Vedic sage Valmiki.
