From his writings, I would infer that he would regard wars in different ways according to the circumstances.

The Second World War he would probably feel was justified: the Allies took forceful action to eliminate an evil regime.

The Crusades, by contrast, were basically caused entirely by differing faith positions. They achieved nothing positive, and were an appalling waste of human life, and a source of tremendous suffering - for no real reason.

That's what I imagine he'd feel. But like I said: you'll have to ask him.

War is sometimes necessary to prevent greater evil. Sometimes it's evil itself.
