Yes. (in a way) Ron Paul started the tea party. But it was really a grass roots movement with which Ron Pauls 2008 presidential campaign had nothing to do with. It was a spontaneous up-swell of support of Dr Paul which culminated in the Moneybomb which set historical all time records in fund raising!!! But the "tea party" was quickly hijacked by fox news, Sarah Palin and other "false conservatives". I'm unsure if you could relate the average tea party voter with Ron Paul anymore. If you want to know what started the tea party and what it stood for in the beginning, watch any Ron Paul Speech. He is truly amazing
Barry Manilow donated to the Ron Paul campaign. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was said to be a proponent of Paul's individualist ideology. Political celebrities such as Tucker Carlson, Lew Rockwell, and Andrew Napolitano all supported Ron Paul.
