STC General Trading Co., Ltd, a fully government-owned company, popularly known to the public as STC, is one of the leading trading organizations in Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon. 1970 - Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation was established. 1971 - STC commences its trading activities 1992 - (Converted in to a public limited liabilities company under the Conversion of Public Corporations and Government owned business undertaking in to Public Companies.) Lanka General Trading Company Limited was established. 2002 - The Company's Name was changed to STC General Trading Company Limited.

Trading Operations: For over three decades STC has continued to transact business in importing and distributing a wide range of consumer products. Supplies relating to Agricultural Implements, Electrical & Electronic Supplies, Household Goods & Miscellaneous Items, Laboratory Equipment & Chemicals, Machinery & Self-Reliance Projects, Office Equipment & Stationery, and Recreational Items & Sports Goods are distributed islandwide through STC's showrooms, Sales Promotion staff, and its General and Franchise dealers. STC serves as a price-stabilizer in the market for specific products, and has to a great extent achieved its raison d'etre: Service to the Consumer; Service to the Nation. STC imports and markets lesser known brands from countries which include the UK, USA, France, Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Mexico. STC operates a Duty-Free Shop catering exclusively to the Diplomatic Corps and UN-personnel serving in Sri Lanka.
