In the early part of the 20th Century the Catholic Church was being violently persecuted in Mexico. Most of the priests, bishops and other religious either left the country or went into hiding. If they were caught, they were sent to prison or killed. Miguel Pro stayed in the country and, using a variety of disguises, went about doing his priestly duties in secret. Someone reported him to authorities and he was arrested and the following day he was shot by firing squad with no benefit of a trial. He died as a martyr while doing the work of Our Lord.Father Pro is not yet a saint but is now considered as Blessed. Hopefully, his canonization will come soon.
