On the first encounter with Marley he is shocked and dismissal but soon sees that he is exercising more than just food related poisoning. For the first of the foretold Scrooge again is dismissal and seeks not to want to see shadows of his past . Ebenezer becomes more acceptable and starts to understand the meaning of "the Christmas Spirit" when he meets the Ghost of Christmas Present. When he finally encounters the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come Scrooge is now terrified as he sees things that potentially are to happen. He now knows that his time on this earth is close to its end and makes a desperate plea for mercy promising to keep Christmas in his heart for ever after
