In the beginning, acupuncture was more than just a form of medical treatment. It was a spiritual connection to what the Chinese considered as being the divine force that held supreme power over the universe, and it was deeply rooted in Taoist custom. This divine force is most commonly alluded to as Yin and Yang, the archetypal symbols of masculine and feminine power. It was around 1000 B.C. when the first concrete physical evidence was found in hieroglyphs that depicted the use of acupuncture. At the time, stones were used instead of needles.
