I think that means if you know of a reason that two should not be married. Like they have an active vow to another, or they are not human, or they don't exist? Something like that.

Roman Catholic AnswerDiriment impediments specifically are covered in chapter III of the Code of Canon Law, Canons 1083-1094; matrimonial consent is covered in chapter IV, canons 1095-1107. Impediments begin with age -men must be 16, women must be 14, local conferences of bishops can establish higher ages. Other impediments include: antecedent and perpetual impotence, prior marriage, attempted marriage with a non-baptized person, holy orders, public perpetual vow of chastity, anyone who brought about the death of his former spouse in order to enter into marriage with another, all relatives in the direct line of consanguinity-whether they are related legitimately or naturally, affinity in any degree, or in the direct line or in the second degree of the collateral line through a legal relationship arising from adoption.

Can a divorced Episcopalian marry a catholic in a catholic church?

For starters, Catholics are bound by Church law to marry according to the Catholic form of marriage unless they get a dispensation for just cause from the bishop. In this case, however, there is yet another impediment, as the Catholic Church considers sacramental marriage a bond indissoluble by human means. The divorced Catholic is, in the eyes of the Church, still married to his or her original spouse. To go to another faith tradition in order to "cheat" the Church on this matter is problematic in that it displays a lack of understanding as to why the Church believes as she does about marriage. Not to mention a lack of understanding as to the importance of fidelity to the faith they supposedly espouse.

Can you marry your 1st cousin in the Catholic Church?

Catholic AnswerNo, no one may marry a first cousin in the Catholic Church. Canon 1078, paragraph 3 says that "A dispensation is never given from the impediment of consanguinity in the direct line or in the second degree of the collateral line." Thus, marriage between first cousins is a diriment impediment which renders the persons involved incapable of contracting marriage validly, and no dispensation is possible for this impediment. fromCode of Canon Law, translation prepared under the auspices of the Canon Law Society of America, Nihil obstat: + Anthony J. Bevilacqua, J.C.D.; Imprimatur: Rev. Msgr. John F. Donoghue, Canon Law Society of America, Washington D.C.Canon 10911. In the direct line of consanguinity, marriage is invalid between all ancestors and descendants, whether they be related legitimately or naturally.2. In the collateral line of consanguinity, marriage is invalid up to and including the fourth degree.3. The impediment of consanguinity is not multiplied.4. If there exists any doubt whether the parties are related through consanguinity in any degree of the direct line or in the second degree of the collateral line, marriage is never permitted.Canon 1092Affinity in the direct line in any degree whatsoever invalidates matrimony.Canon 1093The impediment of public propriety arises from an invalid marriage after common life has been established or from notorious and public concubinage; it invalidates marriage in the first degree of the direct line between the man and the blood relatives of the woman, and vice-versa.Canon 1094They cannot validly contract marriage between themselves who are related in the direct line or in the second degree of the collateral line through a legal relationship arising from adoption.
