8-10-11>>> Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1878 Liberty Head Eagle is considered a scarce date of the Liberty Head type. Circulated coins are obtainable but most examples are Mint State. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. In general retail values for low grade coins are $880.00-$910.00, better grade are $980.00-$990.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $1,040.00-$1,060.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelry or have been cleaned have little or no value to a collector or dealer.

The US struck a gold and silver one dollar coin in 1878, post new question as to type of coin.
It's worth at least its silver value, around $14. But you need to be more specific because some dollar coins are worth a lot more even if very worn. Please post a new question with its date and mint mark, if you can make them out. Saying "Liberty head dollar" isn't specific enough because ALL dollar coins from 1878 to 1935 had Miss Liberty's head on the front.
