on the front axle housing that locks front diff.in 4x4
The actuator of the Dodge Ram 4x4 is located on the top of the front differential. Depending on the year, the actuator is either vacuum or manually operated.
If your asking about the 4x4 actuator, then it is screewed into the front differential passenger side but towards the middle.
It does not have one. It has a 4x4 Actuator in the front housing.
Need to check the front4x4 actuator on the front housing to see if its working. there is a switch on the top of the transfur case that sends power to the front actuator to ingage 4x4
It sounds like you need a new actuator. there is two things that lock in when you use 4x4. one is the transfer case and the other is the front diff. the front diff is turned on by an actuator. if you have a problem with the actuator the front axles wont lock in. even though the transfer case is engaged.
If it has lock out hubs, Then you have a bad lock out on one side are the other. If it does not, Then the Actuator on the front housing is not ingaugeing. Need to check that with a test light. If it has power going to it , Then replace 4x4 Actuator. If no power then check 4x4 fuse in fuse box.
The 4x4 actuator is screewed into the front differential housing towards the passanger side, It has electric wires going to it,
Might be a 4x4 cable on front axle. Disconnect it from the actuator or where it runs to underneath the battery. Once the cable is unhooked, it can not be in 4x4.
Need to put truck in 4x4 with engine off, transmission in park key onTake a test light and check the wires on the Actuator, and see if they are hot.If they are hot Then replace the 4x4 Actuator in the front housing. If they are not, Then check the 4x4 fuse
