You compare the areas of their bases. Find the area of the square cake tin by multiplying 8 x 8 to get square inches. Find the area of a circle (the base of the round tin) by multiplying pi x radius x radius (The radius is 4 inches, half the diameter). For pi you can use 22/7 or 3.1415. So the area of the circular tin is 4 x 4 x 3.1415. Is that bigger or smaller than the square tin? (You can also do it physically, because the round tin will just about fit INSIDE the square tin, so all the extra corners of the square tin will hold more cake! Yum!)
The average restaurant sandwich is going to have 5 oz on the skimpy side and 7 oz on the high side. For a standard 10 inch sub your looking at 8 oz max

A sandwich tin is a type of cake tin, but it is shallower than the tin used to bake a whole cake. Typically if making a sponge you might divide the mixture between two sandwich tins, rather than baking it in one cake tin. This produces two flatter cakes (and reduces the baking time). When cold these two cakes may be 'sandwiched' together (hence the name) with jam and whipped cream to make one taller cream-filled cake. The top would then be dusted with icing sugar. It ensures that all the layers of a cake to be stacked are the same size and avoids the fiddly and messy need to slice a cake in half horizontally if you want to fill it.
