Goshala

or Gaushala

is Sanskrit word for Cowshed. "Go" or "Gau"

means cow and "Shaala"

means a shelter place.

Goshalas

are an Indian form of protective shelters for cows. Goshalas

focus on treating cows well out of their religious significance in Hinduism and consequent cultural sensitivity towards its welfare.

Apart from providing sanctuary, the Goshala

also rescues the animals destined for illegal slaughter.
