Goshala
or Gaushala
is Sanskrit word for Cowshed. "Go" or "Gau"
means cow and "Shaala"
means a shelter place.
Goshalas
are an Indian form of protective shelters for cows. Goshalas
focus on treating cows well out of their religious significance in Hinduism and consequent cultural sensitivity towards its welfare.
Apart from providing sanctuary, the Goshala
also rescues the animals destined for illegal slaughter.
