j c Higgins bolt action shot guns are excellent guns ,and of good quality their was a recall by Sears but that has been with drawn and baseless the shotguns were made by High standard manufacturing . there are two basic models the model 10 wich was made between 1946 and 1956 and the model 11 from 1957 to 1962 model 10 is 6 shot and the model 11 is 3 shot these shotgun are some of the best bolt action shotguns ever made. How ever bolt action shotgun are old fashion and not very popular today and Sears sold a lot of them so one in good to ner new is only worth abought 100 buck if you know somebody that whants it a gun dealer may offer alot less than that however these are still very good gun and better made than most of the modern stuff you have great old shotgun enjoy it

Sears no longer pays $160 per bolt, however; it is down to $65 (I think). 16ga and 20ga guns were never subject to the recall. $125 TopsIt's a good enough gun to use, but bolt action shotguns just aren't in demand. They will bring only a little more than an old single shot. Even if the Sears recall is only $65, that's probably more than a dealer or pawnshop will give you for a Sears 12 gauge bolt action. actually it was all gauges 583 3 to 583 21 how ever the recall was baseless and Sears is nolonger buying the bolts back no telling how many good old shotguns were ruined buy all that stupidity
