A JPAG™ Software in a systems engineering or project management environment, is a deliverable oriented decomposition of a large project into smaller tasks which are identifiable and quantifiable to ease the analysis of work progress. It sub - divides a group's project into discrete work based elements and manageable sections, in such a way that it helps the project manager to exercise supervisory / analytical control, to identify and pre-empt possible areas of slow progress or failure.

A JPAG ™ program element may be a service, task, product or a confirmation data or any combination of the above. A JPAG also provides for a simplified framework for execution, estimation or control of complicated projects involving multiple agencies. It's useful for identifying areas of concern along with providing guidance for accurate project schedule planning and control.

A JPAG ™ program is developed by starting with the basic objective and subsequently subdividing it into indentified, manageable sub-tasks in terms of value, duration, work tasks or responsibilities which include all deliverables necessary to achieve the stated objective in the shortest and cost effective progression.

A JPAG ™ program provides a simplified framework for the easy development of the overall planning and control of a project in terms of organized definable incremental tasks. These develop the technical, project schedule, cost and managerial reporting into an established and organized system. From a cost perspective, these packages are grouped and assigned to specific departments to produce. These departments, or cost accounts are defined in a clear structure and these are then allocated defined budgets to produce the specific deliverables.

The concept of a JPAG ™ program developed, after the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) in the United States Department of Defense (DoD). PERT was introduced by the U.S. Navy in 1957 to support the development of its Polaris missile program. While the term "JPAG ™ " was not used initially this program was first developed by an Indian Engineer under the overall guidance of an employee of the Ministry of Defense, Government of India.
