In newer versions of Mozilla Firefox, the status bar is hidden by default, and has been renamed the 'Addon Bar'. It can be enable by going to View > Toolbars and checking the 'Addon Bar' option. Older versions follow the same steps, but look for 'Status Bar' instead of 'Addon Bar'.
