It is made up of the Union Jack in the top right, representing NZ's ties to Britain and represents NZ once being a colony of Britain. It also features the Southern Cross stars on the centre right, which represents NZ's location in the South Pacific Ocean. All on a dark, royal blue background representing the large expanse of Sea and airspace surrounding NZ as it has no bordering countries.
