Explain why nitration are usually carried out at comparatively low temperatures?

In most of the nitration processes heat is require but relatively (as compare to sulphonation) low temperature is due to volatile nature of nitrating agent which is usually nitric acid, at higher temperature nitric acid may decompose or may escape from the reaction vessel.

Why is -NH2 group of aniline protected before nitration?

Aromatic amines cannot be nitrated directly because they give unexpected oxidation products along with nitration products. This is because, HNO3 is not only a nitrating agent but also acts as a strong oxidizing agent. Therefore, to solve this problem, nitration is carried out by protecting the -NH2 group by acetylation. The acetyl group is finally removed by hydrolysis to give a mixture of o- and p-nitro amines.

Nitration of aniline with nitrating mixture gives m-nitro-aniline?

yes because amine forming salt with acid and it will be meta active

How is RDX used as a medicine?

The discovery of RDX dates from 1898 when Georg Friedrich Henning obtained a German patent (patent No. 104280) for its manufacture, by nitrating hexamethylenetetramine.[2] In this patent, its properties as an explosive were at length described, as well as its possible use as a medical compound mentioned. Research and development were not published further until G. C. V. Herz obtained a British patent in 1921 and a U.S. patent in 1922, for its manufacture by nitrating hexamethylenetetramine.[2] Later in the 1920s RDX was produced by the direct nitration of hexamine. RDX was used by both sides in World War II.
