there are two type of tss sensor, one is on auto transmissons, and one is a tyre safey system, both fitted to cars
P0717 TSS Intermittent Failure TRANSMISSION SENSOR CIRCUIT!
The turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor is located inside the automatic transmission.

Trouble code P2767 means: Transmission input/turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor B no signal
TSS Maianbar ended in 1940.
That will dpend on what system we are working on. There are as many as 6 speed sensors. The ABS has 4 sensors, one at each wheel. There are two in the transmission. One is called a TSS(turbine shaft speed) sensor, the other is a VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) The TSS is located on the main body of the transmission toward the driver's side, and the VSS is located on top of the output shaft housing on the passenger's side of the vehicle.
This engine has no turbine or turbo. Although the 1996 Ford Ranger does not have a turbine or turbo, it does have a turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor. It is located inside the automatic transmission.
I just replaced the TSS (sometimes called the Transmission Speed Sensor or Turbine Speed Sensor) on my 1999 Ford Contour... perhaps it is similar to your 2000 Contour. I removed the driver's side front wheel and the TSS was clearly visible on the side of the automatic transaxle. I broke the sensor trying to pull it out (it was corroded in place) and wound up drilling out the plastic around the magnetic core. What I would do is, after removing the 2-pin connector and retaining bolt, I would tap the sensor to try to get it to rotate a bit and free it up, then I would try to wedge a small screwdriver under the sensor and pry up as I rotated the sensor. This or similar procedure should get it out. I was only able to find the replacement sensor at O'Reilly's in my area and it was around $75. All other parts houses kept trying to sell me a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and didn't even show the TSS. Of course, Ford would have the part for considerably more $.

TSS stands for Toxic Shock Syndrome. TSS, as in a position in the BHRS (Wraparound Services), stands for Therapeutic Staff Support.
TSS is potentially fatal - organs can start to fail within a couple of days, and TSS can kill within a week. TSS victims require immediate medical attention if they stand any chance of surviving TSS.
Looking in from the drivers-side wheel well, you can see a sensor with a 2 wire connector on the very end of the trans - that one is the turbine speed sensor (TSS). On a related note, the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is over to the right, kinda facing the firewall.
