Applied Science degrees are available in both Associate and Bachelor levels. Often a student will have a choice between a degree of the Arts, Science, or Applied Science. Applied Science degrees focus very heavily on the real world, hands on skillset that one will need in the workforce related to the degree field. These degrees will have less broad subject themed courses and more specific and tailored classes required that offer a better command of a very specific field. Applied Science degrees are good choices for students that are eager to go directly to the workforce after graduating.

Applied degrees are graduate programs that delivers a university-level education grounded in academic theory while focusing on students' practice, including student-led research in support of employment activities. Program outcomes support non-academic career advancement by balancing the theoretical with the practical. Pedagogy emphasizes real-world practice and enables student participation based on shared experiences. Teaching of theory and concepts advances career-related knowledge and skills while student research supports work-related activities. (UBC)

The applied science degrees at the associates level where initially designed as career oriented programs of study. In other words, they were designed to give an individual all the expertise necessary to enter the work force in a particular area after obtaining the degree. Transfer (full faith in credit) was not a primary concern. However, today many of the applied science degrees are fully transferable to four year colleges and universities. You must check with the Transfer Counselor at the institution you attend for more detailed information. The applied science degrees at any level are very particular to a specific field; thus there are less general education courses involved.
