I don't know which game you're talking about, but these are all of the most recent games in the past 15 years. Firered/Leafgreen: Walk to Misty, battle two trainers. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald: Battling trainers give you more light. You'll eventually find Brawly. Pearl/Diamond: Battle all of the trainers in the room, then Gardenia will appear. Platinum: Battle each of the four trainers, and the Floral Clock will eventually turn to Gardenia.
