If you want to react say , hydrochloric acid with zinc, the word equation is : -

Hydrochloric Acid and Zinc react to produce Zinc Chloride and Hydrogen .

The chemical equation is

2HCl(aq) + Zn(s) = ZnCl2(aq) + H2(g)

(aq) means aqueous solution

(s) means solid

(g) means gas.

Chemical equation uses the scientific symbols in the equation, and also makes it balanced.

Word Equation:

Oxygen + Glucose > Water + Carbon Dioxide

Chemical Equation:

O2 + C6H12O6 > H2O + CO2

(Balanced)

6O2 + C6H12O6 > 6H2O + 6CO2

A chemical word equation is when you use the symbols from the Periodic Table together to make a new substance.

ex. H2O

Hydrogen + 2 Oxygens = Water OR H + O2 = H2O (H-hydrogen O-oxygen H2O- water) Thats a chemical word equation!

For word equation, we write the complete names of the products on the left hand side of the arrow and complete names of products on the right side of the arrow. Example;

Copper oxide + Hydrogen ---------> Copper + Water
