Fondant is used two ways. One way is in cake decorating and in that way it is a thick bakers play dough used on the outside of cakes, and the other way is between the layers of a cake. I would think chocolate fondant would be in the layers of a cake. When as a filling it is sweet and almost pudding like.

Basically its just melted chocolate in a fondue pot meant to be used as a dipping sauce for an array of dippers like pretzels, chips, etc.

It is a fountain of thick liquid chocolate used at posh parties, weddings and buffets. An internal pump pushes the liquid chocolate to the top of the fountain, the chocolate then flows down at least three tiers to a pool at the bottom, it is then pumped back to the top again. A selection of fruit on cocktail sticks is used to dip into the flowing chocolate and then eaten, in moderation of course.
