This refers to the law of conservation of mass. It is generally used when balancing chemical reactions as it states that the total mass of the substances undergoing a chemical reaction is always the same: before, during, and after the chemical reaction. The "closed system" part means that no matter is gained from the surrounding environment nor lost to it.

Keep in mind though that this law isn't valid for nuclear reactions, in which the total mass of the system does vary. In any case, you can always use the law of conservation of energy, as matter itself is a form of energy (see the famous equation E=mc2).

Mass in a closed system will not change. In a truly closed system, where there is no external exchange of energy, neither will pressure.

When wood is burned in a closed container its mass does not change is that observation or law?

In a closed container the mass of reactants (wood) and products (carbon dioxide, water, ash) remain unchanged; this is the low of mass conservation.

What is the answer A closed container of air and 5 g of tin metal have a total mass of 765 g. After heating the container and its contents have the same mass as before (765 g). When the container i?

This is the law of mass conservation. If the external surface of the container react with air the law is not applicable, a new compound is formed.

How is the law of conservation of mass related to rust?

The metal will rust over time but the mass of the container as a whole. The law of conservation of mass is not violated.

Is the system in the law conservation of mass lab is an closed or open system?

closed

What is an example of conservation of mass in a closed system?

What happens to the MASS when MAGNESIUM is burnt inside a CONTAINER?

According to the Law of Conservation of Mass, matter can neither be created nor destroyed, only change forms. Therefore, if you burn magnesium inside of a closed container, the mass will remain the same. ---- However you will get heavier ash than you had magnesium as the Oxygen in the air in your container will be transfered. But Total Mass is conserved.

What is meant by conservation of mass and energy?

Law of mass conservation in chemistry: in a chemical reaction the mass of reactants is equal to the mass of products.Law of energy conservation: in a closed system the energy remain constant.

What is law conservation of massmatter?

Conservation of mass. It means that in a closed system, the amount of mass doesn't change over time.

What law represents a balanced chemical equation?

The law of conservation of mass, which states that in a closed system, mass is neither created nor destroyed, it can only change form. This means that in a chemical reaction that takes place in a closed system, the mass of the reactants equals the mass of the products.

What is the relation between law of mass conservation and rate of reaction?

The mass of reactants is equal to the mass of products.

How does the mass of a melting solid affect the closed systems mass?

It doesnt. Law of Conservation of Mass.

In what situations would mass be conserved?

This is a general law of nature - the law of mass conservation.
