The average mine temperature varies considerably from pit to pit; temperature is dependent on depth of workings and how effective ventilation is. Temperatures at the coal face can be between 13 degrees C and 30 degrees C.
A pit is open, whereas a mine has a ventilation circuit.
Could be a pit, an abyss, a well, a chasm, a pothole, a shaft, a crater or a mine.
A pit opens!
Quarrying takes place at a quarry, a relatively small open pit mine where the usual product is dimension stone for construction or decorative purposes. Mining takes place at a mine, which may be of the open pit, surface, or underground variety, where the usual product is a valuable ore or coal, not normally dimension stone.
Pit ponies were lowered down into coal mines to help haul the coal. By the mid 20th century, the ponies were replaced by mechanical devices.

By digging it out of the ground - either in an open-cast mine (where the coal is at the surface) or in a pit sunk into the ground to get to the coal.
the most common now are open pit strip mining and underground.
pit ponies were used to transport coal through the mine shafts they were usually treated cruelly and spent almost all their lives underground
•Go to lumbride swamp at the beginner mine and head towards the direction to drynor. Secret mine with only a few people there. •train to level 60 mining withoutmining coal(iron recommended), then go to the mining guild. •alharid scorpion pit has some coal their •falador mine also has coal(mining guild is right next to it)
The Felling mine disaster occurred when firedamp ignited and the resulting coal dust explosion sent a devastating blast throughout the mine and up its two mine shafts, the John pit and the William pit, named after the Brandling brothers who owned the colliery.
W. D. Bullock has written: 'Integrated open-pit coal mine design'
Pit ponies were horses which were used underground in coal mines to pull carts of coal. The horses spent their lives underground and were exposed to harmful mine gases frequently. These animals worked long hours, and many of them died due to exhaustion or from injuries.
The two typical types of coal mines are tunnel mines, where the coal vein is dug out by tunneling into it, or "Open Pit" mines, where the coal and surrounding rock are dug out in a large pit and separated. The type of mine used is often determined by the hardness of the surrounding rock, hard rock is often avoided and the coal tunneled out of it. Soft rock or soil is more safely and easily handled with open pit mining. This often produces low grade waste known as "culm" which is poor quality carbon deposits.
Big Pit National Coal Museum was created in 1983.
A product made in South Australia is coal. South Australia has a masive open pit mine!!
