An order of commitment, if you are refering to child support, means that person has to pay current child support and possibly arrears as well and if that person does not comply with the court order they will be arrested and taken to jail.

Added: The term can have several meanings depending on the context in which it is used. More must be known as to what it is that you are referring to in order to answer it properly.

A commitment order is an order issued by a judge when he finds that an individual is so mentally ill that they are a danger to themselves or society. It is not the same as a conviction for a crime. The procedures vary state to state, but it usually involves some person (usually family) bringing the case to a judge, who then orders that the individual be evaluated by a psychiatric professional. If the professional suggests that a commitment order would be called for, the judge then orders that the individual either begin receiving psychiatric help within the community, or be held against their will in a hospital while they are treated.
