The word 'cult' is having an affilliation with any relgious sect/denomination and it's teachings. A 'dangerous cult' uses the same general teachings in a destructive manner. They tend to put their own little twist on biblical scriptures and other types of texts to reveal their own interpretation. We've all seen evidence of this time and again in the news. The results of radical thought processes at work.

Is Mormonism a dangerous cult or just a sick religion?

Neither. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is no more a cult than any other religion. It is not typically regarded as 'mainstream', but there is nothing about the conduct of the Church or it's members that is cause to say it is a cult or 'sick'.

Is actress katharine heigl still a practicing Mormon--or is she smart enough to realize it is a dangerous cult which has destroyed the lives of thousands of people?

She is no longer practing although members of her family are. As for whether it is a "dangerous cult that has destroyed the lives of thousands of people"... its only made mine better, but if you can name thousands (or even a few...) that it has destroyed I suppose I will have to believe you.
