An issue that many people have with DNS is when they configure it themselves, if you went and added a DNS entry yourself and were to make a mistake whether it was the IP or the url then when you try to access that site you will not be able to.
This is because your DNS will be pointing to a different location, until you fix that entry your DNS will be pointing to the wrong location which means you will be unable to access the site you want to.
It avoids the need to specify unique IP for each computer.
There is only one disadvantage of the DHCP server is that anybody who is not the meber of the any company and when he will attach his machine with the network card he will get automatticaly ip address from the DHCP Server and now he can use the internet and other some resoursces from the network...............post by lalit aggarwal
- I just want to point out to the above poster that its not just as easy as that. To get onto the domain you will need an admin password, and its quite easy to restrict internet usuage for local machines. But incase someone does manage to get around this, there are various precautions that can also be taken, such as MAC filtering - the persons mac address has to be on the "allowed" list, otherwise their not getting on. Or you can simply limit the number of DHCP addresses to be handed out.
Not too many. Dynamic Host Control Protocol essentially is just a server that sits on a network and transmits the information on how to connect to the network (location ip of the gateway server etc) to the computers any computer on the network trying to connect.
DHCP still allows you to assign specific IP addresses to particular MAC addresses (or network cards) on your network if you so choose which greatly resembles 'static' ip addresses. Typically though DHCP will transmit all the connection info to the remote client and assign an ip to that MAC address which 'leases' it for x amount of time.
The only real advantage is that without DHCP, someone wishing to connect to the network will most likely have to contact the administrator and get an assigned for them, I suppose making the network very mildly more secure as the admin will have his hands on most actions. But its not cost efficent because DHCP can do nearly all the configuration work for the admin instead of getting people to type it in like in the old days.
disadvantages of IP network
Advantages:Clients have ready access to their DHCP servers. All client/server traffic is local. There is no worry about DHCP traffic adding to the burden of routers.
DHCP s just a server that provides IP details to a computer. Since it can be set up to give statc IP address details to specific computers it has no disadvantage....unless of course the DHCP server crashes.
DHCP Server can be a standalone server
yes DHCP require the authorization of the dhcp server before IP addresses can be allocated because until we authorize DHCP server the network does not know who is the dhcp server for the subnet. The DHCP server broadcasts the information to all.
How to install the DHCP in win 8 server
c
(DHCP) Dynamic host Configuration Protocol. The Default Port Number is: for DHCP client : 546 for DHCP server : 547
The advantages of Active Server Pages are that they provide a powerful scripting language and it is compatible with HTML. The disadvantages of Active Server Pages are that the coding is complex and the connections are stateless.
dhcp has to be authorized
dhcp-client
DHCP server configuration in /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf(FEDORA)or /etc/dhcpd.conf (RHEL).
Usually nothing, today all routers have a DHCP server included.
