The US has a democratic system with separation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, and a capitalist economy. The USSR had a communist system with a single-party rule, state ownership of industries, and a centrally planned economy. The US emphasized individual rights and freedoms, while the USSR focused on collective ownership and equality.
The US government has a representative democracy where the people elect representatives to run the government for them whereas Athens had a direct democracy where the people decide and solve the issues themselves. Hope this helps! :D
In Rome there was an obvious divide between the rich and poor, and they were represented by difference branches of government. In the US, the constitution states that everyone is equal before the law regardless of wealth. The Roman constitution had three branches: the legislative (based on the Athens democracy), the executive (based on the Spartan oligarchy) and the judidical (based on the previous monarchy) and the US constitution was a vast improvement on this.
Government controls us and the public, you and me and everyone, follow the governments rules. At least we are supposed to..
In Athens the citizens met in fortnightly assembly and made decisions which the Council implemented between meetings. In the Us, the citizens elect congressmen, who meet in Washington, and follow partly lines which do not necessarily reflect the wishes of the citizens who elected them.
The United States had a democratic government and the Soviet Union had a Communist government.
