What is a driver expected to do and not do in a North Carolina road test?

Like in any State, the Officer will direct you to go out onto the road. But from the second you get into the car with the officer, you must demonstrate every aspect of a good driver. First, turn OFF your cellphone! Put your seat belt on FIRST (do NOT start the car yet)! NEXT, check and adjust your mirrors. Make sure the radio is OFF. Check that the Officer put on his seat belt.

Ask if he's ready. THEN, turn on the car.

KEEP BOTH of your hands ON the steering wheel in the correct positioning! LOOK in both mirrors before moving! Pull out or back out, using all the skills and rules of a good driver, such as checking your mirrors. He may tell you which direction to go. Follow his verbal directions. CLEARLY STOP BEFORE all stop signs---do NOT do any rolling stops---stop behind the line! USE your turn signal ahead of what you intend to do. If you cannot see at that position, slowly move forward but STOP again before entering a roadway. LOOK both ways - twice! Follow ALL traffic rules and road signs. Keep your car decidedly between the road lines; do not drift. Follow ALL traffic signals. Drive where he tells you; turn when he tells you, making sure to signal FIRST, check mirrors SECOND, and safely perform all actions through each turn. Don't do anything that could get you a ticket in real life. And, don't wreck.
