Many of the sets I'm looking at have duvet covers. What exactly is a duvet cover and why do I need one?

A duvet cover is a changeable, washable cover for your down filled comforter (duvet). They are essentially large pillowcases. You need duvet covers not only because they can be removed and washed like pillowcases, but also because they come in a variety of styles and colors that can quickly be changed to give your bedroom a whole new look.

How to Easily Put On Duvet and Comforter Covers and Keep Them in Place?

One of the most frustrating problems, when using duvets and comforter covers, is getting them on and keeping the duvet in place. The following steps will provide an easy way to put on your duvet and comforter covers and keep everything from shifting.Prepare the duvet or comforter and the cover. The first step you should do is get everything arranged for the process. You will need to spread the duvet or comforter out across the bed. Then you will need to turn your cover inside out and have the closed end of the cover at the bottom of the duvet.Attach the cover to the duvet or comforter. Using three or four safety pins (depending on the size of the duvet) pin the closed end of the cover to the bottom of the duvet. Using safety pins that blend well with the duvet or comforter cover will be a neat touch so not to distract from your design. Make sure you have one safety pin at each end then one or two towards the middle.Pull the cover over the duvet. Now you will need to reach through the cover and grab the bottom of the duvet to start pulling the cover up over the duvet. This may require a small amount of maneuvering but is much easier than trying to squeeze the duvet inside the cover.Fasten the duvet and add optional safety pins. Once you have the cover pulled all the way over the duvet you will need to attach the open end using the provided buttons. You can also add additional safety pins at the open end to attach the top portion of the duvet to the cover. This will also help prevent the duvet from moving around inside the cover. These steps will help reduce your frustration level when trying to put on your duvet and comforter covers. The added safety pins will also prevent the duvet from sliding around once inside the cover so that your bed is easier to make and looks nicer.

Where can you buy a kingsize duvet?

One can buy a king-size duvet in a variety of places. First, one can purchase a duvet at a brick-and-mortar store, like JC Penney or Bed, Bath and Beyond. Second, one can use online stores and outlets (e.g., Amazon or Overstock) to purchase a duvet. Third, one can search thrift stores (e.g., Deseret Industries or Savers) or yard sales for a used duvet.

How do you use a duvet cover?

A duvet cover is used as an envelope to hold a duvet. To insert the duvet into the duvet cover, first spread the duvet cover flat over the bed. Open the bottom of the duvet cover. Find the top of the duvet and grab hold of the two top corners. The tricky part is sliding the duvet into the duvet cover. As best you can, while continuing to hold tight to the duvet corners, work the duvet up to the top of the duvet cover. Place one corner of the duvet into the corresponding corner of the duvet cover. Hold tightly onto that corner from the outside. Next, do the same at the other top corner. Hold tight to both corners and pull them up to the top of the bed. Make sure the middle top side of the duvet also lines up with the middle top side of the duvet cover. Now, as best you can, slide the duvet cover down over top of the duvet. Both the duvet cover and duvet will likely be bunched up, but keep gently working it down. It is a bit tricky. The goal is to get the bottom two corners of the duvet aligned into the bottom corners of the duvet cover. When the duvet and cover are mostly aligned, give the covered duvet a good shake to even out the contents. When you are happy with the duvet distribution, do up the bottom of the duvet cover. Now, snuggle up.

Can you get duvet covers for different seasons?

Yes and no. You can get duvet covers in fabrics that are traditionally associated with different seasons (for instance, percale for Summer and flannel for Winter). However, the cover doesn't add much warmth to the duvet - if you want extra warmth for Winter, get a duvet with more filling, and if you just need a little extra warmth for cool nights in Summer, get one with just a small amount of filling.
