Endoscopy = endo + scopy

Endo = inside

Scopy = method/science/art of visualizing/viewing something.

Endoscopy means to visualize the insides of something.

the term endoscopy is

generally used in medical parlance.

Doctors use endoscopy as tool to view the insides of a human(or animals).

Body cavities can be visualized more easily.

The peritoneal cavity

The urinary bladder.

The synovial cavity inside a joint(knee for eg.)

Through the mouth everything can be visualized as long as thee scope and doctors finesse allows.

Endoscopy require professional equipment which are basically a RIGID or FLEXIBLE tube which is put into the patients body, it has a Camera at its end, and a Light source too.

The equipment is attached to a TV screen so as to visualize what is inside.

Endoscope cameras have a variety of viewing capability(viewing angle)

From 30 degrees to even upto 70degrees.

For the foodpipe(esophagus), stomach and further digestive tract there are SIDE VIEWING endoscopes available as a doctor would be interested in seeing the walls of the organ.

Endoscopy use :

1. Diagbostic- to visualize lesions such as ulcers, or granulomas, vascular malformations, bleeding points, perforations etcetra.

2. To take a specimen(biopsy) a suspicious growth or any other tissue, or contents of an organs/cyst

3. Therapeutic : endoscopic surgery using minimal incisions and good results but at the hands of experienced and good surgeons.
