A field is an individual set of data items that are of the same type. If we were to take an example of a phone book to demonstrate this, the book as a whole would be your database. It has three fields. The name is one field, the address is another and the phone number is the third. Each individual name, address and phone number as a unit, would be a record, as a record is a set of fields with data relating to one thing, like a person or a product. You would have a field for each piece of data that you want to store as part of the record.

∙ 11y agoA field is a name or given to a specific element data in order for it to be used in a database. Access is the name of a database produced by Microsoft. Fields are in effect the fundamental building blocks within the database. Each field stores the same type of information. For example Fruit could be a table with apples and Pears being fields noting the types of fruit, and in the example below the items listed under Name, Age and Sex are fields in a database.

∙ 14y agoA text field will normally be just what it says - text, like this writing.
However, if a field that contains numbers or dates is formatted as text the contents of the field will not be able to be used in any sort of calculation.

∙ 14y agoIt is a single element of a table. In an Excel spreadsheet a field would correspond to a cell in the spreadsheet. For example, in an address table a record might consist of a name, a street address, a city, a state and a zip code. The name, street address, etc. are all fields in an address record.

∙ 10y agoa database is basically made up of boxes where information is stored for reused. The Boxes are laid up in groups called FIELDS. a Fied is given a name so that the application knows what boxes are in there with data in. I.e. You may see "Field " , "Field 2" etc You can name a Field as i.e. "First name", then another with "Last name" . as you add "records" (information) like first and last names each first and last name becomes a "record" which is linked together so that you can eventually ask the machine to tell you for example everyone with a last name of "smith".

∙ 10y agofield may be discribed as a column of data. The field name is the name for all the data placed in that field. In access it defaults to filed 1, Field 2, Field 3 etc. You can then change this to read for example TITLE, FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME

For example, you want to store weather data for a month on various locations. The fields you would want to have is location, temperature, condition, and so on.
